My relationship with Harry Potter goes a long way back in time.
If you ask me, what's the first English movie that you watched?
I'll say, Harry Potter.
If you ask me, what's the first novel you read?
I'll say, Harry Potter.
If you ask me, what's the first word you have spoken?
I'll say, Harry Potter,
Just kidding.......
When I first came across this series, as a small kid, it just made me fall in love with it. Its storyline, sets, costumes, action sequences are the ones that attracted me back then. But when I first read its novels. It just blew my mind and it's then that I came to realize its true brilliance. So here I am with 5 reasons why Harry Potter Series is awesome.
1. The Character of Harry Potter:
Let me make it very clear at the beginning itself, Harry Potter is NOT my favorite character in the series. (it's Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore) But, he is the one that I felt most connected to. It's because of the way his character is written one could easily put himself in his shoes at various instances of the story. And that's the beauty of this series. It's a pure work of fantasy fiction still, the characters in it are so relatable that you instantly got attached to them, began to care about them, and thus become a part of their world.
2. The Similarities between Harry and Voldemort:
One thing that is repeatedly pointed out in different instances of the series is the similarities between Harry (The Protagonist) and Voldemort (The Antagonist). Whether it be their determination, their resourcefulness, or their habit of breaking rules. This is unique as the main focus of stories, in general, is on the differences between the hero and the villain to justify the hero's actions but here J.K. Rowling did the exact opposite. WHY? Because she wanted to make a point, which is said by Dumbledore in The Chamber of Secrets.
Harry is the protagonist because he chooses to use his abilities to do good for others, not like Voldemort who uses them to dominate others for his gains.
3. The Character arcs:
Another beautiful thing about the series is its character arcs. Each character has its own background story that tells us why they are the way they are and as the series progresses they fight with their fears and inabilities to become a much better version of themselves.
The character arc that I liked the most is of Neville Longbottom. He was shown as a shy, clumsy, introverted boy who keeps on getting himself in trouble almost all the time during the first half of the series. It's in the fifth part, however, that his arc truly starts. When Harry forms the Dumbledore Army, which aims at helping other students learn spells to attack and defend themselves, he becomes the first to join him. Where under Harry's guidance he improves his skills drastically. During the Battle of Hogwarts, he bravely refuses Voldemort's invitation to join the Death Eaters and single-handedly destroys the snake Nagini. (which is my favorite scene of the series) This paves the way for Harry to kill Voldemort. His character is the living proof of what Dumbledore preaches-
"It matters not what someone is born, BUT what they grow to be"
4. The Satires:
It was when I read the novels that I realize that the series is full of satires. J.K. Rowling has brilliantly shown in the series the hollowness of the high society culture, journalism focus on making things crispier rather than reporting the truth, the political intervention in the education system to satisfy their needs, and even the use of art forms like biographies to deliberately destroy the image of famous personalities. But the satire that I like the most is on all of us. We got so involved in our personal lives that we don't pay attention to things happening around us. He described it through the muggles in the Wizard world who, in general, remain unaware of most of the magical things happening around them like people walking through the wall between Platform No. 9 and 10 at King's Cross Station to reach Platform Nine and Three Quarters. These satires are used so perfectly that they made us loathe these ill-practices and inspires us to do something to stop them.
5. The Message:
The series focuses on many topics such as bravery, royalty, friendship, etc. But at its core, the message that the series conveys is that 'love is the most powerful thing in the world' and through its various characters J.K Rowling showed us different forms of love including Lily Potter's unconditional love for Harry as a mother, Harry's love for his friends and how can I forget, the purest and the endless love of Severus Snape for Lily.
The series also shows us the prejudices present in our society and the way to overcome them through love and understanding. It made us fall in love with Harry (an orphan), Ron (who came from a poor financial background), Hermionie (considered as low born in the wizard's world), Hagrid (a half-giant), Professor Lupin (a werewolf), and the list goes on. It thus teaches us to love everyone no matter which caste, religion, race, or social background they belong to. And thus make us a better person.
Bhaot bhadiya Manas🙌💯
